Japan officially announces Vietnam visit by PM Suga

The Japanese Government on October 16 officially announced that Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide will pay visits to Vietnam and Indonesia from October 18 to 21 to discuss measures aimed at strengthening relations with the two key Southeast Asian countries.

Tokyo (VNA) - TheJapanese Government on October 16 officially announced that Prime Minister Suga Yoshihidewill pay visits to Vietnam and Indonesia from October 18 to 21 to discussmeasures aimed at strengthening relations with the two key Southeast Asian countries.

Speaking at a press conference, Japan’s Chief Cabinet SecretaryKatsunobu Kato said the leader is expected to hold talks with hisVietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

According to the spokesman for the Japanese Government, PM Suga and PM Phuc willdiscuss cooperative measures to develop bilateral relations within theextensive strategicpartnership between the two countries.

PM Suga will also affirm Japan’s cooperation withVietnam regarding high-level meetings of ASEAN scheduled to take place inNovember. He will deliver an important address during hisvisit on Japan’s policy towards ASEAN.

While in Indonesia, he and President Widodo will discuss measures forcooperation in many fields, including responding to the COVID-19 pandemic tofurther develop a strategic partnership between Japan and Indonesia.

In both Vietnam and Indonesia, the new Japanese Prime Minister willdiscuss cooperation for realising the vision for a free and openIndo-Pacific region and solutions to address international issues, including thoserelated to the East Sea and the Korean Peninsula.

The visits are the first by the PM since he took office on September 16./.
