Japanese film to recall Can Tho bridge accident

Japanese filmmakers will produce a movie inspired by a love story between a Vietnamese girl and a Japanese engineer, both worked for the Can Tho bridge construction project.

– Japanese filmmakers will produce a movie about a love storybetween a Vietnamese girl and a Japanese engineer, both worked for the Can Thobridge construction project, heard a press briefing on November 4.

This is part ofactivities within the framework of the third Vietnam-Japan Cultural Festivalco-hosted by Japan’s BrainWorks Group and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce andIndustry’s Can Tho Branch from November 3-5.

According to NoboruKondo, BrainWorks Chairman, the film, titled “O phia ben kia cau Can Tho” (Onthe other side of Can Tho bridge) tells a beautiful love story of a Vietnamesegirl and a Japanese engineer, both worked for the construction project.

Construction of Can Thobridge, which was built with Japanese official development assistance (ODA),started in September 25, 2004 and completed on April 24, 2010.

The accident occurred onthe morning of September 26, 2007, when a 90-meter section tumbled to theground, killing 55 and injuring 79, Kondo said.

The film project, worthat least 400,000 USD will be shot in Vietnam’s Can Tho and Hanoi, and Japan’sTokushima and Kobe prefectures, starting in October 2018, according to ProducerFukunaga Kuniaki.-VNA
