Japanese firms provide aid for over 1,060 pandemic-hit Vietnamese students
Japanese enterprises have donated more than 50 million JPY (481,100 USD) for a programme to finance part of tuition fees for Vietnamese students facing difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan, which has selected more than 1,060 beneficiaries.
Tokyo (VNA)– Japanese enterprises have donated more than 50 million JPY (481,100 USD) fora programme to finance part of tuition fees for Vietnamesestudents facing difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan, which has selected morethan 1,060 beneficiaries.
The information was unveiled at an event held in Tokyo onDecember 4 to review the programme, which was coordinated by the Vietnamese Embassy, MUFG Bank and its partners, the Associationof Vietnamese Intellectuals in Japan (AVIJ), and the Vietnamese Youths andStudents' Association (VYSA) in Japan. It ran from September to mid-Novemberthis year.
Speaking at the event, AVIJ President Le Duc Anh said theorgansing board of the programme selected over 1,060 eligible students frommore than 3,400 submissions. Each received 50,000 JPY in aid, he added.
Anh said the fund is a source of encouragement for Vietnamesestudents to continue purchasing their dreams in Japan.
Tooru Mera, a representative from the MUFG, hoped the aidwill help alleviate difficulties facing the students so that they can obtaingood academic achievements and make contributions to the Vietnam – Japan friendshipin the future.
Lam Thanh Phuong, an envoy at the Vietnamese Embassy, said thepandemic has caused several obstacles for Vietnamese in Japan, includingstudents, who sent lots of requests for help to the embassy. Amid the context,the embassy has worked to raise funds for the community, helping them gainfinancial assistance, food, and accommodations, she added.
Phuong noted the programme for Vietnamese students is thelargest of its kind to date.
According to statistics from the Japan Student ServicesOrganization (JASSO), as of May last year, there were 73,389 Vietnamesestudents in Japan, accounting for 23.5 percent the nation’s total number of foreignstudents./.
Nearly 200 third-year students majoring in nursing, tourism, education, business administration, electricity-electronics, information technology, and construction of Dong A University were received in Japan before they start their internship and work placement scheme.
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.
The festival highlighted the contributions and robust development of Vietnam's revolutionary press over the past century while promoting press products and showcasing the creativity of Vietnamese journalists.
The programme on sustainable poverty reduction has achieved its annual targets for reducing the poverty rate as assigned by the National Assembly and the Government. It has fulfilled five specific objectives and five five-year goals, and met nine out of 12 indicators related to addressing basic social service shortages.
