The Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims(VAVA) and the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) haveagreed to increase their activities to ask for justice for the victims.
Overthe past decade, the association, on behalf of over 3 million victims,have demanded the US government and chemical producers to takeresponsibility for what they caused during the war in Vietnam, VAVAPresident Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Rinh said at a July 23working session between the two organisations in Hanoi.
Thestruggle for justice for the Vietnamese victims has got support frompeople around the world, especially those in the US and countriesinvolving in the war in Vietnam, he said, adding that the US governmentand parliament decided to spend 84 million USD disinfecting toxicchemicals left by the war in the Southeast Asian country.
TheUS also provides 5 million USD in humanitarian aid each year for theVietnamese disabled and AO victims for their treatment and health care.
Expressingthanks for the VUFO’s contributions to caring and helping the victims,Rinh said he hopes that the union will continue serving as a bridge forthe VAVA and international organisations.
VUFO Chairman Vu Xuan Hong pledged to increase coordination with the VAVA in caring and aiding the victims.
Thetwo sides should jointly organise an international conference this yearto share information on Agent Orange with international organisationsbased in Vietnam , he suggested.-VNA
