Joint efforts needed to find missing people after natural disasters: Deputy PM

Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Prime MinisterTrinh Dinh Dung on November 2 asked police and military forces to closelycoordinate with cities and provinces in dealing with consequences of naturaldisasters in the central region, especially searching for the missing people.
Joint efforts are needed to treat the injured andvisit bereaved families, said Dung, who is also head of the Central SteeringCommittee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and chairman of theNational Committee for Disaster Response and Search and Rescue.
As many as 1,208 officers and soldiers are racing tofind those missing after landslides in the Rao Trang 3 hydropower plant in PhongDien district, Thua Thien-Hue province, and Nam Tra My and Phuoc Son districtsin Quang Nam province.
The landslide at the Rao Trang 3 hydropower plant hasburied 17 workers, of whom five have been found dead.
As of November 2, landslides in Nam Tra My districtleft 17 dead, 46 injured and 15 missing. One death has also been reported inBac Tra My district.
Meanwhile, the landslide in Phuoc Son district hasclaimed seven lives and left six residents missing. A person in Hiep Ducdistrict, Quang Nam province, has also been reported missing.
A total of 22 people have remained missing acrossQuang Nam province after the natural disasters.
Regarding the 23 fishermen aboard the two vessels inBinh Dinh province that went missing on October 27, three have been rescued./.
