Hanoi (VNA)🔜 – The fourthindustrial revolution and the development of digital technology have affectedmedia technology, requiring journalists to improve their knowledge and skillsto avoid lagging behind, a Party official has said.

The statement was made by Vo Van Thuong,head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Educationat a national conference in Hanoi on January 18 to review media performance in2016 and set tasks for 2017.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam noted that asinformation technology is booming, demand for information is rising, provokingfierce competition. He urged the Ministry of Information andCommunications to strengthen the provision of information to the media, whileexpressing hope that the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Informationand Education as well as other ministries and sectors will coordinate toprovide news to the media. Participants at the conference highlightedthe need for media management agencies to work harder to give proper directionon media coverage in all fields, especially news related to sensitive matters. Media agencies should exert efforts toovercome their shortcomings, while implementing the Press Law 2016 and moral regulationsfor journalists. Looking back on media performance in 2016, participantsat the event agreed that last year, the media followed the leadership of theParty and State, providing timely, accurate and comprehensive coverage of political,socio-economic issues of the country and the world while serving as atrustworthy forum for the people. The sector made significant contributions tothe success of the 12th National Party Congress and the election ofdeputies to the 14th National Assembly and the People’s Council atall levels for 2016-2021. The press popularised achievements in thecourse of renewal, gave suggestions on solutions to various matters andcombated corruption, wastefulness, and social evils. However, problems remain in press activities,including violations in licenced principles of media organisations as well as inaccurateinformation affecting national interests and the prestige of organisations andindividuals.-VNA
