Thai police disclosed on September 10 that a key suspect in last month’s deadly Bangkok blast paid a 600-USD bribe to enter Thailand illegally.
National Police Chief Somyot Poompanmoung told the press that the suspect, Adem Karadag, said he travelled through Vietnam to a neighbouring country where he then paid for transportation. The Police Chief did not name the neighbouring country and the bribe taker.
Adem Karadag, one of the two foreigners arrested in connection with the bomb attack near the Erawan shrine on August 17, was detained at a flat in eastern Bangkok late in the month.
Police said they found bomb-making paraphernalia and dozens of fake Turkish passports at the flat.
The 25-year-old second suspect, Meiraili Yusufu, a Chinese citizen, was detained two days later on the border with Cambodia.
Meiraili confessed that the instigator asked him to deliver a bomb package to another man in the Hua Lampong gas station and then went to the Ratchaprasong intersection to take photos of the explosion.
He also admitted to being involved with the chemical substances seized at a flat in northern Nong Chok district.
