Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha announced on September 1 that a suspect believed to be behind a deadly bomb attack on a shrine in central Bangkok in August has been arrested. The suspect, who, according to the PM, was not a Thai national, was arrested by the Thai army while attempting to escape to Cambodia at the border in Sa Kaeo province.
The same day, a spokesman of the National Council of Peace and Order said Wanna Suansun, a female suspect in recent Bangkok bombings, has contacted the Thai authorities to provide testimony. Wanna Suansan, a Thai national who is facing an arrest warrant, is now residing in another country and has contacted the authorities, the spokesman, Winthai Suwaree, told a press briefing.
Currently, police and related security authorities are interrogating a suspect apprehended in Bangkok's Nong Chok district on August 29, Winthai said, adding the result has proven to be greatly beneficial to the interrogation and leading to the apprehension of additional suspects. The August 17 bombing near Erawan Shrine killed 20 people and injured more than 140 others. A second explosion took place the following day at a Bangkok pier. None was injured in the second incident.-VNA
