Kien Giang (VNA)🗹 – The southern province of Kien Giang province is striving to complete its programme to eliminate makeshift and dilapidated housing by the end of June 2025, improving living conditions for disadvantaged households and contributing to the national campaign to eradicate substandard housing.

Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Nguyen Tien Hai emphasised the need to maximise social resources, particularly the pledged funding, to meet the deadline. He said local authorities must strictly manage funds, ensure transparency, and oversee construction progress. They are also tasked with identifying families in need to secure additional support.
The programme has received strong directions from the provincial Party Committee as well as financial contributions from organisations and individuals within and outside the province. With active participation from the entire political system and widespread public support, it has helped foster social solidarity and enhance rural development efforts. This year, Kien Giang aims to assist with building 2,314 new houses, including 989 for poor households and 1,325 for near-poor ones, and repairing 485 houses, with a total cost exceeding 153 billion VND (6,000 USD).
As of now, the province has commenced construction on 920 new houses (39.7% of the target), 335 of which have been completed and handed over. Meanwhile, repairs have started for 326 others (67.2% of the target), with work on 28 already completed. Four localities, including Giong Rieng, An Bien and Giang Thanh districts and Ha Tien city, have handed over 111 new houses for needy families, meeting their targets, reported the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee. To date, the province has secured 101.4 billion VND, covering 66% of the required funding, for the programme. As 51.99 billion VND is still needed, it is pushing ahead with communications to raise public awareness and encourage broad participation from the community, businesses, and organisations to ensure success./.
