Bac Kan, (VNA)𝓡 – The province of Bac Kan aims to complete its target of eliminating substandard housing by December 31, with efforts being made to encourage districts and cities to meet the target by October 30.

As of February, more than 4,600 households in the province expressed their need for assistance in eliminating temporary and dilapidated housing. Funding for the programme has been sourced from national target programmes on sustainable poverty reduction and socioeconomic development in ethnic minority areas, as well as a housing support scheme for those with meritorious service to the nation and relatives of fallen soldiers. With these resources, Bac Kan has secured financial support for 961 households, however, an estimated 3,670 poor and near-poor households have yet to receive funding.
To address the shortfall, the provincial Steering Committee for the Elimination of Temporary and Dilapidated Housing has convened meetings to mobilise resources. An advance of 75 billion VND (nearly 3 million USD) from the provincial relief fund has been allocated to assist 1,406 households, while 19.263 trillion VND from a 5% state budget savings initiative is expected to support 321 households. Additionally, the provincial People's Committee raised nearly 960 million VND through social mobilisation efforts, which is projected to benefit 15 households.
Despite these efforts, Bac Kan still faces a funding gap of more than 115 billion VND to support approximately 1,930 households in need. According to provincial People’s Committee Chairman Nguyen Dang Binh, the province has proposed the Ministry of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs report to the government and prime minister for the funding. The province is working to promote communications to enhance public awareness and encourage community participation in the initiative.
Besides, local authorities continue to monitor implementation, promptly address challenges faced by households, and ensure that support is effectively delivered to those in need./.
