Lam Dong (VNA) – An additional 21 schools inthe Central Highlands province of Lam Dong have been recognized as meeting nationalstandards.
According to a decision by the provincial People’s Committee, fivekindergartens in Lam Ha and Duc Trong districts and Da Lat city; three primaryschools in Lam Ha district and Da Lat city; eight junior high schools in thedistricts of Da The, Duc Trong, Lam Ha, and Di Linh, and Bao Loc city; and two seniorhigh schools in Bao Loc city and Dam Rong district have satisfied national standardsat the first level.
Meanwhile, Anh Dao preschool in Da Lat city, Ly Tu Trong primary school in DucTrong district and Phan Van Tri junior high school in Bao Loc city met nationalstandards at the second level.
So far, Lam Dong had 433 schools meeting nationalstandards, making up 68.4 percent of the city’s total schools.
Previously, the local education – training sector set the goal to have 70percent of schools meeting national standardsin the 2019-2020 academic year.
There are five criteria for national-standardschools, which concern the number of classes andstudents, active socio-political organisations; qualified staff and managers;education quality (determined by students’ academic performance); infrastructure; and communityinvolvement.
There are two levelsof national-standard schools. The first level requires schools to ensurecomprehensive quality. The second, higher level is given to schools that createconditions for students to match the achievements of their counterparts inadvanced countries in the region and in the world./.
The central and Central Highlands region is paying heed to the building of national-standard schools with nearly 1,840 reported to meet national standards in 2013, a rise of 199 schools against the previous year.
A number of schools in HCM City which were named national-standard schools - an honour given to units that meet criteria ranging from student performance to infrastructure - no longer meet that criteria because their classrooms are too crowded.
The Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang has been upgrading infrastructure for schools in remote areas and Khmer communities as the new school year is only two weeks ahead.
The northern midland province of Phu Tho has focused on maintaining and improving the quality of schools that meet national standards during the 2018-2019 academic year.
