Vientiane (VNA) – Lao alumni who studied at theVietnam People’s Army schools and academies met at an exchange in Vientiane onJuly 14.

Speaking at the event, Lieut. Gen Vilay Lakhamphong, DeputyDefence Minister and Director of the General Political Department of the LaoPeople’s Army, hailed the significance of the exchange in the context that thetwo countries’ Parties, governments, armies and people are celebrating the Laos-Vietnam,Vietnam-Laos Year of Solidarity and Friendship, the 40th anniversaryof the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (July 18) and the 55th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties (September 5).

Lakhamphong said the event affords Lao alumni a chance to recalltheir unforgettable memories in Vietnam, adding that many of them are holdingimportant positions in the Lao People’s Army and the Lao People’s RevolutionaryParty.

He stated that the officers and soldiers of the Lao People’sArmy will do their best to foster the special solidarity, fighting alliance andcomprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

In his speech, Deputy Director of the General Department ofPolitics under the Vietnam People’s Army Maj. Gen Le Hien Van attributed thepast victories in the national liberation and reunification and the currentnational development to the valuable and effective support of the Lao Party,State, army and people.

He expressed hope that the Lao alumni in Vietnam wouldcontinue serving as a bridge fostering traditional friendship and comprehensivecollaboration between the two armies.

Earlier, similar events were held in the north, south andcentral of Laos in April, May and June, respectively.-VNA
