Dien Bien (VNA) – Laos has awarded the Order ofFriendship to the People’s Committee of Dien Bien province and third-classOrder of Labour to the province’s police.
At a ceremony held in Dien Bien Phu city on May 23,Secretary of the Party Committee and Governor of Luang Namtha province of LaosPheththavone Philavan, on the behalf of the Lao President, presented the ordersto the People’s Committee and the police of the northern mountainous province.
In his remarks, the Lao Governor said Dien Bien was abase for the Lao revolution during the country’s struggle for liberation whileVietnamese voluntary troops participated in campaigns to liberate northern Laos,including Luang Namtha province in 1962.
In recent years, Dien Bien and Luang Namtha have expandedcooperation in the fields of trade, services, tourism and culture. Dien Bienhas supported Luang Namtha in culture, social affairs, agriculture andforestry, defence-security and human resources training while Dien Bien’spolice has provided more than 300,000 USD in financial aid for thesocio-economic development in the Lao province.
Chairman of the People’s Committee of Dien Bien Mua A Sonthanked the government and people of Laos for the gesture. He said he hopesthat the relations between Vietnam and Laos as well as Dien Bien and LuangNamtha will be further strengthened and developed in the time ahead,contributing to the stronger bond of friendship between the two countries.-VNA

In particular, in April 2023, the two sides successfully carried out a joint operation that dismantled a major organised, transnational drug trafficking ring involving both Vietnamese and Cambodian suspects.
