Laos has recently reported its first cases of African swine fever, confirming outbreaks of the disease in its southern province of Salavan, according to the country’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

The Southeast Asian nation detected theoutbreaks in seven villages in the province’s Tumlan district, which led to thedeath of at least 900 pigs.
To prevent the disease from spreading out,Lao authorities have taken drastic measures, such as establishing temporaryanimal quarantine stations to check the transportation of pigs and theirproducts from infected areas and spraying chemicals.
Locals are advised to join hands instamping out the disease.
African swine fever does not spread tohumans or poultry though it can kill pigs quickly and there is no vaccineavailable.-VNA
