According to theannouncement, Laos will suspend the import of pork, including live pigsand processed products, from Vietnam. Relevant units willmonitor illegal import at international, local and international border gates and international airports. Additionally, pork that has been smuggled or illegally imported intoLaos must be destroyed. In2020, Laos suspended the import of pork from China and Thailand after detectingseven outbreaks of African swine fever with 973 dead pigs in Salavan province. Mostrecently in January, Laos also halted the import of pork from Thailand./.
Russian food supplier Miratorg announced that it has exported 40,000 tonnes of pork to Vietnam so far this year and become the country’s largest meat provider.
