Laos to build world’s largest hybrid floating solar power plant

Hanoi (VNA) – The Lao Government andshareholders of Nam Theun 2 hydropower plant have agreed to develop Nam Theun2-Solar, which is expected to become the world's largest hybrid floating solarproject.

With an installed capacity of 240 megawatt peak (MWp), the plantwill be built on a 3.2 sq.km surface area of the reservoir of Nam Theun 2.

Accordingto the Lao media, the Lao Government and French energy supplier Electricité De Franc (EDF) recently signed an agreement to kick off the project in thecentral province of Khammuan.

ಌ Theproject developers, led by EDF in partnership with the Lao Holding StateEnterprise (LHSE) and the Electricity Generating Public Company (EGCO) ofThailand, are planning to start construction in 2022 and begin operation of the plant in 2024./.
