Late Belgian professor honoured with Vietnam’s Friendship Order
Late Professor Jean Salmon, former Honorary President of the Centre of International Law under the Free University of Brussels, and former member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), has been awarded the Friendship Order of the Vietnamese State in recognition of his great contributions to the Vietnam-Belgium cooperation, especially in international law.

Brussels, October 5 (VNA) – Late Professor Jean Salmon, former Honorary President of the Centre of International Law under the Free University of Brussels, and former member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), has been awarded the Friendship Order of the Vietnamese State in recognition of his great contributions to the Vietnam-Belgium cooperation, especially in international law.
A hand-over ceremony was held by the Vietnamese Embassy in Belgium on October 4 with the participation of the late professor’s relatives, colleagues, and friends.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Belgium Nguyen Van Thao, who is also head of the Vietnamese Delegation to the European Union (EU), praised the late professor’s contributions to the bilateral cooperation, saying the order is to honour his tireless efforts in this regard.
The late professor’s wife Denise Mathy Salmon and his son Yvain Salmon thanked Vietnamese leaders and the embassy for their sentiments to Jean Salmon, saying it is their honour to receive order.
Yvain Salmon highlighted milestones in cooperation between his farther and Vietnamese government agencies.
