Lawmakers discuss gender equality policies’ outcomes

Hanoi (VNA) – Deputies at the 14th National Assembly gave opinions on a report on theimplementation of national targets on gender equality during their November 9sitting as part of their ongoing fourth session.

They acknowledged theParty and State’s efforts in designing policies in gender equality, along withthe completion of many legal documents in the field as well as endeavors of theGovernment, ministries and sectors in implementing Law on Gender Equality.

In addition to completinglegal framework in the field, gender equality has been integrated intolaw-making process, they said, adding that communications and personnel for thework have been strengthened.

The deputies recognisedpositive results in improving gender equality in some sectors and areas.

However, they pointedout that the report has yet to clarify full and accurate data of outcomes ofconducting some targets, and poor performance in implementing other goals suchas equality in employment opportunity, education and health care access,eliminating violence and abuse against women and women trafficking, and legalsupport for women.

State management overgender equality has shown many shortcomings, they said, adding that inspectionin many localities is still ineffective.

Meanwhile, engagementand support of male in activities improving gender equality have remainedmodest, the deputy noted, stressed the need to raise public awareness of bothmen and women in the work.

Lawmakers also askedthe Government to adjust and complete the report, with more detailed measures inimproving legal framework in gender equality as well as associating the matterinto socio-economic and law-making process, and strengthening personnel andbudget for the work.

Minister of Labour,Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung clarified some relevant issues raisedby the deputies.

In the afternoon, thelegislators debated a report verifying the draft bill on revisedAnti-Corruption Law before discussing in groups the bill.

On November 10, theyare scheduled to adopt a resolution on socio-economic development plan for 2018,and give ideas on a verification report on the draft revised defence law andrevised law on measurement and map. They will also discuss the draft revised lawon measurement and map in groups.

In the afternoon, theywill listen to a verification report on draft law on special administrative-economicunits and discuss in groups the bill.-VNA
