Lawmakers look into coast guard, national defence laws
The draft law on Vietnamese coast guard force and the draft revised law on national defence were among issues National Assembly (NA) deputies discussed on May 22, the second day of the ongoing fifth session of the 14th tenure parliament.

Hanoi (VNA) – The draft law onVietnamese coast guard force and the draft revised law on national defence wereamong issues National Assembly (NA) deputies discussed on May 22, the secondday of the ongoing fifth session of the 14th tenure parliament.
In the morning, lawmakers worked in groups tomake additional evaluation of the implementation of the socio-economicdevelopment and State budget plans for 2017 and the plans in the first monthsof this year.
They also looked into the outcomes of thriftpractice and wastefulness prevention in 2017, along with the final balance ofthe State budget in 2016.
In the afternoon, the parliament had a plenarydiscussion under the chair of NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.
Minister of National Defence Ngo Xuan Lich, onbehalf of the Prime Minister, presented the draft law on Vietnamese coast guardforce. A verification report on this bill was later delivered by Chairman ofthe NA’s Committee for Defence and Security Affairs Vo Trong Viet.
After that, Vo Trong Viet delivered anotherreport on revisions to the draft revised law on national defence, which latercontinued to be scrutinised by legislators at the discussion.
Defence Minister Ngo Xuan Lich clarified someissues relating to this draft mentioned by NA deputies.
On May 23, the parliament is scheduled to haveanother plenary discussion to mull over some debatable contents of the draftlaw on the special administrative-economic units of Van Don, Bac Van Phong andPhu Quoc. A draft law amending some articles of the laws relating to the Law onPlanning and a verification report on this draft is set to be submitted to theNA.
Later, lawmakers will work in groups to discussthe draft law amending some articles of the laws relating to the Law onPlanning and the draft law on crop production.-VNA
