Locality-to-locality cooperation drives Vietnam-China ties: Official

Quang Ninh (VNA) –💦 The cooperation between Vietnamese and Chinese localities is the motivation that drives the bilateral relations to a deeper and more comprehensive fashion, Politburo member, Chairman of the Central Theory Council and President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMA) Nguyen Xuan Thang said on February 21.
Attending the New Year meeting for secretaries of the Party committees of Vietnam’s Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Cao Bang and Ha Giang provinces and China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province, Thang underscored the significance of the locality-to-locality collaboration, which contributes to realising the perceptions reached by high-ranking leaders of both sides.
He welcomed the continued implementation of the new year meeting mechanism and praised the initiative to include Hai Phong city as a new participant, expressing his hope that the localities will make efforts to create breakthroughs in friendship exchange, people-to-people connections, infrastructure development, particularly the construction of two standard-gauge railway lines linking Guangxi with Vietnam and the Huu Nghi (Vietnam)– Youyi Guan (China) smart border gate project.
Thang also suggested the localities continue upgrade and open new border gates, helping facilitate trade between enterprises and people of both sides.
At the event, Secretary of the Quang Ninh provincial Party Committee Vu Dai Thang proposed active participation in developing cross-border economic cooperation zones, upgrading border crossings, and outlining planning for the Lang Son – Hanoi and Mong Cai – Ha Long – Hai Phong standard-gauge railways.

Meanwhile, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Secretary of the CPC Committee of China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Chen Gang suggested maintaining regular exchanges, promoting development planning coordination, and sharing practical experience in socialist theory. Besides, he highlighted the need to strengthen cooperation in new areas such as digital transformation and AI service products while working closely in border protection in accordance with the three legal documents signed between the two countries to build a border line of peace, friendship, and cooperation for development.
He pledged to cooperate with Vietnam in making the planning of the standard-gauge railways and emphasised collaboration in commemorative activities, cultural exchanges, and sports events to strengthen the Vietnam – China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
The meeting offered an opportunity for competent sides to look back on their cooperation over the recent past and outline measures to develop their cooperation to a more substantive, effective, and sustainable manner, contributing to deepening the Vietnam – China ties and building a community with a shared future that carries strategic significance.

The International Department of the CPC Central Committee stands ready to work closely with the Vietnamese Embassy to properly implement the common perceptions of the Parties and countries’ leaders, prepare for high-level exchanges and meetings, and fruitfully boost inter-Party cooperation.
The minister expressed his delight at the progress in bilateral economic ties, noting that Vietnam-Guangxi trade reached 41.6 billion USD in 2024, a 15.4% increase year on year. Vietnam has been Guangxi’s largest trading partner for 26 consecutive years, he said.
