Hanoi (VNA) 𒀰- An earthquake of magnitude 6.8 struck Kepulauan Talaud of Indonesia on July 9, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said.

According to the EMSC, the quake was at a depth of 91km. On the same day, a magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck off the coat of the southern Philippines, the US Geological Survey said, but according to local authorities there were no reports of casualties or damage.
The USGS said that the quake struck at a depth of 70 kilometres about 100 kilometres southeast of Sarangami municipality off Mindanao island.
It did not trigger a tsunami alert, the US Tsunami Warning System and the Philippines seismological agency reported. Earthquakes regularly strike the Philippines, which sits along the Pacific Ring of Fire, an arc of intense seismic and volcanic activity that stretches from Japan through Southeast Asia and across the Pacific basin. Most quakes though are too weak to be felt by humans. In June, a 7.6-magnitude quake struck off Mindanao, briefly triggering a tsunami warning, and at least three people died then./.
