Malaysia Airlines announces reform plan

Malaysia Airlines (MAS) will maintain its international service while attempting to overcome the declining performance and tragic events in 2014, said its newly-appointed CEO Christoph Mueller said.

At apress conference on June 1 in Kuala Lumpur, Mueller announced athree-phase restructuring process, which seeks growth to start in 2017or 2018.

Accordingly, a new Malaysia Airlines companywill be incorporated, taking over contracts, assets and liabilities, andbegins operations from Sept. 1.

In addition, it will cut its work force by one-third or 6,000.

Malaysia Airlines was hit by the tragic loss of two planes last year.

In March 2014, flight MH370 disappeared with 239 people on board, whiletraveling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. The plane has yet to befound.

Four months later, flight MH17 was downed in a suspected missile in eastern Ukraine, which killed 298 people.-VNA
