Malaysia: Allowance for fishermen bumped up to 300RM

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - The Malaysian government has decided to raise the subsistenceallowance for fishermen back to 300 RM from 250 RM a month, Prime MinisterTan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said on September 17.

Talking to the press, Muhyiddin said the scheme, among others, offers toeligible farmers, livestock breeders and fishermen to help improve theirstandard of living amid difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the past, Malaysian fishermen received a subsidy of 300 RM per month, butunder the current government, this support was cut to 250 RM per month partlydue to great financial difficulties.

The Malaysian government has committed to provide stimulus packages worth 295 billion RM (70 billion USD) to promote economic recovery,including pumping directly 45 billion ringgit indirect injection to the domestic economy.

In addition, the postponement of the payment schedule of bank loans is alsohelping households reduce the pressure on their financial situation./.
