Kuala Lumpur (VNA) -ꦦ At least 15 people were killed when a bus carrying university students smashed into a minivan in northern Malaysia on June 9, local police said.
Thirteen victims died at the scene near the Thailand border, on the busy East-West Highway, while two died in hospital.
The Perak state disaster management authority said the bus overturned and the minivan slid into a ditch, 33 others were injured. Some victims managed to get out on their own, some victims were thrown out while others were still (trapped) in the bus.
The bus was carrying students from the Sultan Idris Education University, north of Kuala Lumpur, when it collided with the minivan at around 1:00 am on June 9.
Rescuers said a hydraulic cutter was used to bring the victims out of the bus.
According to government data, Malaysia recorded an average of 18 deaths from traffic accidents per day. The East-West Expressway, where the accident occurred, is famous for collisions, including between vehicles and wild animals. The worst car accident ever in Malaysia was in 2013 when a passenger bus crashed into a ravine, killing 37 people./.
