Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - Trade between Malaysia andChina hit 290.65 billion RM (74 billion USD) in 2017, up 20.6 percent from2016, said Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade).

Total exports accounted for 126.15 billion RM, up 28 percentyear on year, while imports recorded an annual increase of 15.5 percent to164.50 billion RM.

Matrade Export Promotion & Market Access DivisionDirector (China & North-east Asia Section) Ong Yew Chee said based on theupbeat bilateral trade, the Malaysian government plans to focus on furtherpromoting local companies with high value-added technology products andservices, such as those in healthcare, environmental and energy saving, to theChinese market.

“We believe there are huge opportunities in these sectors,apart from the big-ticket items like electrical and electronics, machinery andchemicals as well as the food and beverages segment,” Ong Yew Chee was quotedby local news agency Bernama as saying.-VNA
