Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Dozens of people have fallen ill and hundreds ofschools have been closed in Malaysia due to toxic fumes believed to have comefrom a chemical factory in Pasir Gudang district of Johor state.
This is the secondserious incident involving poisonous gas in the district in the past threemonths.
Johor chief ministerSahruddin Jamal said 75 people had so far been sent to hospital for treatment,according to official news agency Bernama.
Authorities have nowordered the closure of all 475 educational institutions in the area until June27, including three institutes of higher education, 111 public schools, 14private schools and 347 kindergartens.
Prime Minister MahathirMohamad said that authorized agencies are conducting investigations over 30chemical companies in Johor state. He vowed to act against those responsible.
