Malaysia detains two network attack suspects

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Huzir Mohamed, head of the Malaysia Police’sCriminal Investigation Department (CID), has confirmed that the authorities haddetained two men suspected of links to global hacking activities.

The suspects are two Malaysians - a businessman in his 40s and a computeranalyst in his 30s. They were arrested on September 14 after the United Statesenforcement authority sent a red notice for their arrest, Huzir said.

The Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) received the US authorities' extraditionrequest on September 3 for the two men, before the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate'sCourt granted a Provisional Warrant of Arrest for their temporary arrest.

Both suspects have been placed under a 60-day remand at the Sungai BulohPrison, according to Huzir.

The arrest is in accordance with the Extradition Act 1992 and the extraditiontreaty between the US and Malaysian governments and the AGC's approval, hesaid.

Huzir said both suspects were indicted for allegedly hacking into major gamingcompanies to steal and illegally resell their "gaming artefacts" suchas tradable in-game chits and credits./.
