Hanoi (VNA) - Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad on July16 met with visiting Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.

At the meeting, the two leaders deliberated measures to further promotethe bilateral relationship which was described as "at its bestlevel".

The meeting served as an avenue for both leaders to discuss a wide rangeof bilateral cooperation particularly on defense and security, regional andglobal issues of common interest, according to a statement issued by the MalaysianPrime Minister's Office.

Both leaders were pleased with the commitment shown by both countries tocurb the spread of extremism and terrorism in the region, the statement said.

Malaysia has also expressed support towards peace and development inMindanao, Southern Philippines, it added.

A day earlier, Mahathir and Duterte watched a boxing match in whichPhilippine boxing legend Manny Pacquiao won a world welterweight championtitle.-VNA
