Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – The Malaysian Government isplanning to build one million units of affordable homes within the next 10years as part of its efforts to help more people, especially low-incomeearners, to own homes.

Minister of Housing and Local Government Zuraida Kamaruddinsaid the construction of the first batch of 100,000 homes would begin thisyear.

Zuraida said all categories of affordable homes would bebuilt, including those for the bottom 40 (B40) percent income group.

She said the locations and units of homes to be built ineach state would be decided in the near future after discussions with therelevant parties.

The Ministry of Housing and Local Government is also indiscussions with several financial institutions to offer special initiatives tomake it easier for the B40 group to own homes, including rent and sell and bankschemes, she added.-VNA
