KualaLumpur (VNA) – Malaysia will increase its investments in Indonesia,Minister of International Trade and Industry Mustapa Mohamed said on June 13.

According to the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), Minister Mustapa hasled a delegation of businesspeople from 40 enterprises on a visit to Indonesiafrom June 11-13.

At a Malaysia-Indonesia business forum, Malaysian businesses voiced hope ofincreasing their presence in socio-economic development plans of Indonesia, theASEAN’s largest economy with a population of 250 million people.

Mustapa said that Malaysia firms are interested in investing in Indonesia’sinfrastructure development projects which are expected to attract moreMalaysian investments in the time to come.

Both countries will come up with proposals to promote bilateral trade andinvestment relations, including cooperation in new areas such as digitaleconomy and Micro-, Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs).

Those proposals will be further deliberated at the upcoming Third Meeting ofthe Joint Investment and Trade Committee scheduled for early July in Malaysia.

Malaysia has set a target of doubling trade value with Indonesia to 30 billionUSD in the coming years from the figure of nearly 14 billion USD last year. Onthe investment front, during 2008-2016, Malaysia invested about 15 billion USDin Indonesia.-VNA
