Kuala Lumpur (VNA)🐎 – At least three people died and more than 80,000 locals in seven states in northern Malaysia have been evacuated due to worst floods in a decade.

The Malaysian National Disaster Command Centre said on its portal on November 29 morning that 84,598 people have been evacuated to 467 temporary shelters. The northeastern states of Kelantan and Terengganu were the hard hit areas. Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that floods this year were expected to the worse than 2014, when more than 250,000 people were displaced and 21 killed.
He said over 82,000 personnel and thousands of rescue boats, four-wheel vehicles and life jackets as well as 31 helicopters are ready.
The national railway company also said it has suspended nine railway lines on the East Coast due to flooding. Floods are common in parts of Malaysia during the annual monsoon season, that starts in November and could last until March./.
