Malaysia secures record of Chinese investment commitment

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has announced that the country has secured arecord of 170 billion RM (38.53 billion USD) worth of investment commitments fromChina.
During his visitto China from March 30 to April 1, Anwar witnessed the signingof 19 memoranda of understanding (MOU) between Chinese businesses and Malaysian partners. Speaking at the Malaysia-ChinaBusiness Forum 2023 on April 1,Anwar thanked investors for their cooperation and giving Malaysia confidence. He urgedChinese investors and business leaders to leverage the strong bilateral tiesand seize the vast opportunities being offered by the current government toinvest in Malaysia. China remains Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 14consecutive years, with total trade of 110.6 billion USD in 2022. China was the biggest foreign direct investor in Malaysialast year, with investments amounting to 12.5 billion USD. According to statistics from Malaysia’s Foreign AffairsMinistry, total exports to China increased 9.4% to 210.62 billion RM (47.84 billion USD) in 2022, while total imports fromChina stood at 276.50 billion RM (62.78billion USD) in the sameyear, or an increase of 20.7% compared to the previous year./.
