Malaysia sees big jump in e-visa applications from China, India

The number of Chinese and Indian tourists to Malaysia registering e-visa services has sharply increased in recent time, local New Straits Times newspaper reported on June 7.

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – The number ofChinese and Indian tourists to Malaysia registering e-visa services has sharplyincreased in recent time, local New Straits Times newspaper reported on June 7.

According to Tourism Malaysia Chairman Siew Ka Wei, total of 284,606Chinese tourists have applied e-visas between March 2016 and April 2017.

Meanwhile, Indian tourists’e-visa applications have jumped from 36,442 in March 2017 to 69,635 in April2017, up 91 percent.

The number of e-visa applications from the world’s two mostpopulous markets will further increase since the country finishes policiesrelated to multipurpose visa which allows travellers to Malaysia to visit othernations in and out the Southeast Asian region, according to Siew. 

Considering China and India important markets for its tourismsector, Malaysia has taken a number of measures, including e-visa and special pricetreatment, to create favourable conditions for visitors from those countries.

The Southeast Asian country aims to welcome 6 million Chineseand 1.5 million Indian tourists in 2020.-VNA
