Malaysia strives to become leading AI hub in Southeast Asia

Kuala Lumpur (VNA)💞 – Malaysian Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo has announced that Malaysia will establish a National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Office in November this year as a step to position itself as a leading AI hub in Southeast Asia.

Speaking at a press conference on September 5, Gobind said that the Malaysian cabinet has decided to establish the office. One of the key focuses of the office will be to develop an ecosystem to attract global investment in data centres and related sectors, helping Malaysia emerge as a hub for AI in Southeast Asia.
The initiative aims to place Malaysia at the forefront of AI development, ensuring the country remains competitive in the rapidly evolving digital economy.
Gobind emphasised that Malaysia recognises the importance of new technologies such as AI for the country’s future, and through the National AI Office, Malaysia plans to take proactive steps to ensure it leads in this critical sector. He added that the office will be placed under his ministry and managed through MyDigital Corp, further strengthening Malaysia’s efforts in the digital transformation space./.
