KualaLumpur (VNA) – Malaysia’s police have coordinated with the country’sImmigration Department to carry out a campaign in Kuala Lumpur to eliminate securitythreats on the threshold of the 29th Southeast Asian Games (SEAGames 29).

Theraid, conducted on August 4-5, aimed to arrest foreigners who do not have validdocuments, as well as persons who have contacted terrorist groups, especiallythose whose headquarters are based in Iraq and Syria.

Headof the Immigration Department Mustafar Ali said that during the campaign,nearly 200 people from South Asia and Southeast Asia were detained due to lackof personal documents.

Chiefof the Malaysian police counter-terrorism division, Ayob Khan Mydin said thatas the host of the SEA Games 29, Malaysia prioritises security-related issues.

OnAugust 5, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak called on Malaysians to showsupport for the upcoming 29th SEA Games as well as for the country’s athletes.

Themessage was written by him on a car after completing his torch run in KualaLumpur.

Malaysiawill be represented by a contingent of 871 athletes and officials in 397 of thetotal of 404 events at the Games which will be organised from August 19-31.-VNA
