Malaysia to hold durian festival in China

Malaysia will held a three-day festival in China to promote the country’s durian, Malaysia’s Minister of Agriculture and Agro-Industries Ahmad Shabery Cheek announced on August 16.

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysia willheld a three-day festival in China to promote the country’s durian, Malaysia’sMinister of Agriculture and Agro-Industries Ahmad Shabery Cheek announced onAugust 16. 

He said the festival will be held in Nanningcity in southern China from October 19-21, with 50 booths displaying 250Malaysian durian-derived products. 

The Southeast Asian country hopes it will oneday be recognised for is durians, like Thailand is known for its Tom Yum, theRepublic of Korea for kimchi and Japan for sushi. 

Malaysia’s durian products first gained accessto China in 2011. In 2016, over 4 million USD worth of 26 differentdurian-based goods were shipped to China by 67 exporting companies. -VNA
