Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Newly-elected President of theUnited Malays National Organisation (UMNO) Ahmad Zahid Hamidi arrived at theMalaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters on July 2 to give astatement over his links to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal.

The former deputy prime minister had previously said hewould go to the MACC headquarters to assist with the investigation into the fundsof a foundation belonging to his family.

He also said that the UMNO accepted the MACC’s request toprobe the allegation that his party had received funds from 1MDB.

The 1MDB is an investment fund formed by former MalaysianPrime Minister Najib Razak in 2009 with the aim of serving the country’ssocio-economic development.

Najib was accused of being responsible for the loss of 3.7billion USD in transactions with other countries through the 1MDB. However, thefund representative and Najib have repeatedly rejected the accusation.

Incumbent PM Mahathir Mohamad said that he willre-investigate the case and is determined to reclaim the loss.-VNA
