Hanoi (VNA) - The US is considering hosting an APEC summit in January 2020 after Chile dropped plansto stage the event, Malaysian Foreign Minister SaifuddinAbdullah said on November 7.
As planned, Malaysia will be the host of the summit in late2020, following the event that Chile has canceled the hosting.
Talking to the press, Abdullah said his US counterpart Mike Pompeo called himduring a meeting of the ASEAN leaders in Bangkok, Thailand, last week.
According to the Malaysian minister, Pompeo told him that the US was thinking ofhosting the annual APEC summit in January 2020.
Previously, Abdullah was in Bangkok in earlier November for a regional summit.The US sent a delegation, with Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross thehighest-ranking US official in attendance./.
