Malaysian court continues trial of Doan Thi Huong

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - The Shah Alam High Court of Selangor State of Malaysia held a hearingon March 20-23 for Doan Thi Huong, one of the two suspects in the murder ofDemocratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) national Kim Chol in February2017.

The trial heard arguments between representatives of Malaysianinvestigation agency and Huong’s lawyers about evidences against Huong.

Representatives of the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia and Malaysianlawyers attended the hearing to protect legitimate rights of Huong. They heldthat the evidence given by the local investigation agency is not adequate, notreliable and unconvincing.

On the sidelines of the court, the embassy’s representatives, who had ameeting with Huong, said that the physical and mental health of the Vietnameseyoung woman was stable.

The court will organise the next hearing for Huong on April 2.

The embassy will continue working closely with lawyers of Huong andrelevant agencies to protect the legitimate rights and interests of theVietnamese citizen.

Huong andanother suspect of the case, Siti Aisyah – an Indonesian citizen, were arrestedone day after the murder of Kim Chol happened on February 13, 2017. So far,both of them have continued affirming that they are innocent as they thoughtthey were joining a harmless prank for a reality TV show. If found guilty, theymay face death penalty.-VNA
