Hanoi (VNA) ꦯ– Malaysia is rapidly emerging as a preferred destination for high-value investments in the semiconductor sector, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said at the launch of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) operations and maintenance training programme.

He revealed that global semiconductor giant AMS establish advanced packaging and design operations in Penang, adding that AMS wants to make Malaysia the spot for the advanced industry. The Malaysian PM’s comments come as countries such as Japan, the US, and China are deepening ties in investment, technology, and energy cooperation with the Southeast Asian nation.
He noted that Japan has appointed a special envoy to collaborate with Malaysia on green energy and decarbonisation while the US has also expressed strategic interest in supply chain partnerships. China, meanwhile remains a key infrastructure ally through projects like the ECRL.
The PM emphasised that while international partnerships are vital, Malaysia must also focus on self-reliance and talent development. According to the Prime Minister, efforts are underway to reduce dependence on foreign expertise by investing in artificial intelligence and training a new generation of skilled professionals. Up to 102 Malaysian trainees will travel to China on May 15, 2025, to undergo specialised training in the operation and management of the ECRL./.
