Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak announced the first cabinet reshuffle since the general election in 2013 on July 28.

Accordingto the Bernama News Agency, the PM appointed Minister of Home AffairsAhmad Zahid Hamidi to replace Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

Najibalso terminated the services of Attorney General Abdul Gani Patail,Head of the investigation of embezzlement accusations relating to theState investment fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

Thereshuffle comes as Najib faces under pressure from leaked confidentialdocuments that allegedly reveal that he received money from the fund.

The shuffle came one day after Najib requestedMuhyuddin and others not to comment on the scandal, where nearly 700million USD from the 1MDB is said to have been transferred to hispersonal account.

Earlier, the electronic portal Utusan MalaysiaOnline, the official portal of the ruling United Malays NationalOrganisation (UMNO), said Najib had a meeting with Malaysian King SultanAbdul Halim Mu’adzam to submit his new cabinet member list.-VNA
