Malaysia’s rubber, rubber product exports hit nearly 8 billion USD last year

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - The export revenue ofMalaysian rubber and rubber products totalled 35.98 billion RM (7.96 billion USD) last year, theMalaysian Rubber Council (MRC) said.

In a statement on March 8, the MRC said rubber export wasvalued at 8.82 billion RM while rubber products’ export turnover stood at 27.16billion RM.

With a value of 19.04 billion RM, rubber glovesremain the biggest contributor to the export of rubber products, making up 70.1%of the total share in 2022.

Malaysia exported a wide range of rubber gloves,including for applications in medical, industrial, cleanroom and food servicesectors, it said.

The council said besides gloves, other latexproducts, comprising threads, condoms, catheters and foam products, increased by29.1% year-on-year with a total export value of 2.38 billion RM.

The strong growth indicates that Malaysia’s latexproducts industry is diversifying and expanding beyond gloves, which havetraditionally dominated the country’s latex products export with around 95%share, it noted./.
