Kula Lumpur (VNA) - Malaysia’s trade performance maintained its positive momentum in February 2025, recording a 5.9% year-on-year growth to hit 223.89 billion MYR (55.97 billion USD), the Malaysian Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI) reported on March 20.
It said exports rose 6.2% to 118.26 billion MYR, while imports increased by 5.5% to 105.64 billion MYR.
This marked the 14th consecutive month of yearly trade expansion and the fifth for export growth, MITI said.
Meanwhile, the trade surplus rebounded to 12.62 billion MYR, marking the 58th consecutive month of surplus since May 2020.
Trade, exports, and imports also recorded the highest-ever monthly value for February, the ministry added.
The ministry further said that the increase in exports was primarily driven by higher demand for manufactured goods (accounting for 85.7% of total exports) which expanded by 8.8% year-on-year to 101.3 billion MYR.
In the first two months of this year, Malaysia’s trade performance continued its upward trajectory, rising by 4.4% to 465.86 billion MYR compared to the same period last year.
The pace of expansion may be tempered by ongoing geopolitical developments, MITI said, adding that to sustain growth in international trade, the ministry and its trade promotion agency - Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation, are committed to expanding exports to existing markets and exploring new ones./.
