Maldivian President keen to boost cooperation with Vietnam
Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Trinh Thi Tam has presented her credentials to President of Maldives Mohamed Muizzu who said that his country wants to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in areas of education, agriculture, and fisheries.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Trinh Thi Tam has presented her credentials to President of Maldives Mohamed Muizzu who said that his country wants to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in areas of education, agriculture, and fisheries.
The President said that the two sides should consider signing documents to create a foundation to promote bilateral collaboration, proposing that Vietnam provide a preferential visa policy for Maldivian citizens.
He highly valued the sound relations between the two countries, and suggested that they conduct specific and practical cooperation activities towards the celebration of the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations in 2025.
Ambassador Tam conveyed regards from Party General Secretary and State President To Lam and high-ranking leaders of Vietnam to President Mohamed Muizzu, and pledged to exert every effort to reinforce and promote the sound friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
The diplomat affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to relations with South Asian countries, including Maldives, and highly values the good friendship between the two nations. She held that the two sides boast great potential in bolstering cooperation, especially in tourism, fisheries, culture, sports, investment and trade, as well as in dealing with common issues such as climate change, sea level rise and maritime environment protection.
Vietnam hopes for Maldives’ continued support for its candidacy at multilateral forums, said the diplomat, expressing hope that the Maldives’ President and Government will continue supporting the Vietnamese community in this country.
ꦐ On this occasion, Ambassador Tam paid a courtesy call to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Minister of State for Economic Development and Trade, and Minister of State for Tourism of Maldives. She organised a seminar connecting Vietnamese and Maldivian businesses, and had a meeting with the Vietnamese community in Maldives. The diplomat also held a working session with the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority to discuss bilateral aviation cooperation./.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Pham Thi Bich Ngoc on August 31 presented aid worth 20,000 USD from the Vietnamese Government to help the Government and people of the Maldives fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
