Hanoi (VNA) – Many southern localities have proposed the Prime Minister allow an extension of the imposition of social distancing underthe PM's Directive 16 for one or two weeks to better curb thespread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking at a meeting on July 28 with Deputy Prime Minister and head ofthe National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control Vu Duc Dam, representatives from southern localities also suggested the centrallevel provide medical support to improve the quarantine and treatment capacitywhen a large number of people return home from pandemic-hit areas.
Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong, Deputy Defence Ministerand head of the Government’s Special Working Group, said that the implementationof social distancing regulations in some localities has not been strict enough,with the movement of people, especially from dusk till dawn, not been monitoredeffectively.
Deputy PM Dam said that the pandemic has spread widely, particularlyin Ho Chi Minh City, parts of Long An, Binh Duong and Dong Nai provinces.
Recently, the ministries, sectors and the Government’sspecial working group visited Ho Chi Minh City and agreed on a pandemic preventionadjustment plan to suit the new situation in the southern economic hub in order toachieve the goal of reducing the numbers of positive patients, those withcritical conditions, and fatalities.
To that end, it is necessary to synchronise, maximise theuse of treatment facilities at different levels, and focus all resources on thefrontline of the fight against the pandemic, stated Dam.
Requiring the stricter implementation of Directive 16, the Deputy PM also stressed the importance of ensuring the circulation ofessential goods to serve locals.
He also asked ministries, sectors and localities to coordinateclosely in the repatriation of people from pandemic-hit areas to ensureabsolute safety./.
