Master plan must reflect particularly important role of HCM City: leader

Hanoi (VNA) – Party General Secretary and State President To Lam chaired a meeting of the Politburo held in Hanoi on August 23 to discuss the master plan for Ho Chi Minh City in the 2021 - 2024 period, with a vision to 2050.
The Politburo scrutinised and basically agreed on the major and important guidelines and viewpoints orienting planning work for HCM City.
In his closing remarks, General Secretary and President Lam said the scheme must adhere to the guidelines of the Party as well as the resolutions of the Party Central Committee, Politburo, and Secretariat, particularly the Politburo’s Resolution No. 31 on orientations and tasks for developing HCM City by 2030, with a vision to 2045.
It must also comply with legal regulations, especially the Law on Planning, while being consistent with the master plans of the country, the southeastern region, and sectors.
The plan also needs to clearly demonstrate the particularly important role and position of HCM City as an economic, cultural, educational - training, and scientific - technological centre of Vietnam which is working to establish itself as a centre of economy, finance, services, culture, education - training, science - technology, and innovation of Southeast Asia and Asia at large, and to become a globally competitive city, he demanded.
He stressed that it is necessary to optimise land, water surface, underground, and air spaces; rationally arrange urban, service, industrial, and rural spaces; and develop modern means of transport that match the status of a global city in the future.
The top leader also underlined the importance of balancing economic and cultural development and putting people at the centre of development.
At the meeting, the Politburo requested the HCM City Party Committee intensify direction to quickly complete the plan.
ജ After the master plan is approved, the city needs to issue mechanisms and policies for facilitating and unlocking every resource to fruitfully carry out the scheme, thereby helping HCM City meet the aspirations of the Party Central Committee, Politburo, and people nationwide./.
