Hanoi (VNA) – A plenary session on building a professional,comprehensive and modern diplomatic sector was held in Hanoi on December 18,within the framework of the 31st Diplomatic Conference.

In his opening speech, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son said over thepast years, the diplomatic sector has synchronously and closely combinedpillars together, including political, economic, cultural diplomacy, externalinformation, overseas Vietnamese affairs and citizen protection, in order tofulfil its task of maintaining an environment of peace and stability,contributing to firmly safeguarding independence, sovereignty, territorialunity and integrity and improving the country’s stature.

Apart from traditional fields, the sector is required toactively seek new approaches to meeting national development demand such astechnological, digital, environment, medical and energy diplomacy, he said.

He wished leaders of ministries and agencies would shareorientations and tasks to step up cooperation and global integration in the fieldsof innovation, digital transformation, environment protection and health care.
