According to the minister, the country has more than 16,000km of roads due for upgrades.

This work has been ordered by the Prime Minister, he added. Attention should be paid to surveillance work to prevent the misuse of fee collection to take profit, he said, giving the example of the case that occurred on the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong expressway recently. Regarding automatic toll collection system on roads, DRVN Deputy General Director Nguyen Xuan Cuong said a total of 26 stations have applied non-stop automatic fee collection and seven stations have been piloted on the national highway No. 1, and the Ho Chi Minh Trail (the section through the Central Highlands), respectively. To improve the efficiency of non-stop automatic toll collection system to create favourable conditions for vehicle owners, Cuong said the system should be implemented at all toll stations. Therefore, the Ministry of Transport has instructed automatic toll collection to be used on all toll lanes, he added. “The DRVN is asking BOT investors to hand over all toll stations to toll collection service providers before March 30, 2019 to start non-stop automatic toll collection,” Cuong said.-VNA
