Dak Lak (VNA) – Minister of Agriculture and Rural Deveಞlopment Cao Duc Phat urged the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak to take effective measures and joint efforts to combat dro🦄ught.
During a visit to the province on March 8, the minister hailed the efforts the province has taken to prevent and fight drought, adding that the severe conditions still lie ahead.
He called on all levels, sectors and people in the locality to join hands to adapt to the impacts of climate change.
The locality needs to keep a close eye on the weather forecast to develop plans for adapting with the situation and effective use of drinking and irrigational water supplies, among other resources, the minister said.
The province reported that 56 reservoirs have dried up and others saw severely low water levels.
More than 9,200 hectares of crops have been affected by drought, including 1,137 hectares of rice fields, nearly 7,800 hectares of coffee trees and 340 hectares of pepper plants.
More than 5,300 households across the province have suffered from water shortages, mostly in the districts of Krong Ana, Ea H’Leo, Krong Buk, Buon Don and Cu M’gar.
More than 80,000 hectares of crops are estimated to suffer from lack of water, a majority of them are coffee growing area. Over 25,000 households fall in the same situation.-VNA
