Ministry's draft decree aims to deal with spam messages

Hanoi (VNA) -
All organisations and individuals will have the rightto refuse spam calls and messages to their phone numbers if a new draft decreeis passed.

The draftdecree on combating spam messages, spam emails, spam calls and regulations onadvertising has been issued by the Ministry of Information and Communications(MIC).

The draftspecifies measures to tackle the issue, including building andimplementing spam prevention systems; monitoring andsharing information on sources of spam messages; and monitoringthe activities of advertising services.

Someother solutions include preventing and revoking electronic addresses todistribute spam messages, strengthening domestic and internationalco-ordination and raising awareness on spam message prevention.

Per thedraft, advertisers will also have to send a copy of each text message they sendout to prospective customers to a system overseen by the MIC. This will allowthe ministry to monitor firms sending out spam.

Users canalso forward spam messages to this system.

Firmsproviding email services and providing internet services will have tocomply with the MIC’s requirements on the prevention and handling of spamemail.

The draftdecree also regulates that no organisation, business orindividual can send advertising messages or calling ads to the phonenumber of a person or body that has opted out.-VNA
